Helping girls define their identity. The adolescent years can be a tumultuous time for girls. It is here when they can loose self-confidence and assertiveness and become more deferential and self-critical. However, a girl who participates in physical activity has a higher self-confidence, feels greater ownership of her body and is more likely to make healthy decisions about drugs, alcohol, food choices and even sex. Getting more girls up and moving by investing in sports benefits our economy and community. Sports programming (traditional and non-traditional) can be thought of as a preventive strategy that can save girls and their families.
